A Few Summer Tips Before My Holiday

We are now in the middle of the early summer, which in Traditional Chinese Medicine lasts from the end of May to the beginning of August. During this time, the Fire Element is in focus: connected to the Heart and Small Intestine, joy of life, activity and warmth.
This year, summer is showing itself in a particularly intense way. Many people are struggling with persistent heat, inflammatory symptoms and report fatigue, inner restlessness, sleep disturbances, headaches or circulatory issues.
Now is a good moment to consciously listen to the body and offer it cooling and relief.
From a TCM perspective, the following tips may be helpful:
Drink enough throughout the day, ideally lukewarm or pleasantly cool rather than ice-cold. Very cold drinks can burden digestion and weaken in TCM the Middle Burner (Spleen and Stomach).
Choose water-rich and cooling foods such as cucumbers, zucchini, celery stalks or watermelon, as they help to clear heat and support body fluids from a TCM perspective. If you enjoy foods like wakame salad or oysters, these can also be included, as they may help nourish Yin and gently support cooling during the summer months.
Grains such as barley or millet have a naturally cooling effect in TCM and help the body balance internal heat.
Mint, as well as cooling teas such as chrysanthemum flower or green tea, are considered in TCM to help clear heat, support the reduction of internal heat and assist the body in staying more balanced during the summer months.
My special TCM summer tip: Mung Bean Water💦
A well-known classic in TCM for summer heat is mung bean water. Mung beans are considered strongly cooling, help clear summer heat and support body fluids.
How to prepare it:
Bring 100g of green mung beans to a boil with 1 liter of water
Then let it simmer gently for 20–30 minutes
Strain the liquid and drink it throughout the day, lukewarm or lightly chilled
The cooked beans can later be used in salads or soups
I’ll be taking a short summer break to enjoy some quiet moments with my family, good books, delicious greek food and time outdoors.
